Gems from Leviticus

Leviticus
When reading Leviticus we should always keep one finger in Hebrews 10, which sums up the Mosaic Law by explaining it simply to be a wonderful painting of what is to come.

It is impossible for the blood of goats and bulls to take away sins. The daily sacrifices were simply a representation of the ultimate sacrifice, whose death and resurrection made us perfect in God's sight, for all of time.

With this in mind one can read through the ceremonial laws and ritualistic practices of worship with an expectation to uncover more of who Jesus is and what he has done! The early stories of Israel are like treasure caves; with the help of the Holy Spirit one can discover gems that might otherwise go unnoticed.

The Sabbath
God used the example of His rest on the seventh day during creation, to establish the principle of the Sabbath. One day out of seven, no work was to be done by God's people, Leviticus 23:3. They were to remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.

We are given a glimpse in Exodus 31:13 of what this law really meant. It 'will be a sign between me and you for the generations to come, so you may know that I am the Lord, who makes you holy.'

Fast forward 1500 years, the Sabbath is summed up completely in the work and person Jesus Christ. Because of what He did, we are now able to live in a constant state of rest, knowing that it is He who makes us holy!

The peace and rest that comes as a result of knowing a salvation that does not depend upon my efforts or work is a daily revelation to me. We did nothing whatever to save ourselves. Jesus is our Sabbath, He is our rest, our substitute for the work that needed to be done.

The Christian life from start to finish is based upon this principle of utter dependence upon the Lord Jesus. There is no limit to the grace God is willing to bestow upon us. He will give us everything, but we can receive none of it except as we rest in him. Watchman Nee.

God is not interested in the practice of law or even religious principles. He is interested in those that live in His grace and His rest, and those who are obedient to His voice. Be assured today that when God looks at you all He sees is Jesus!

Always Purpose

Joseph had reached maturity only as a result of the journey he had been on. He was then able to look back and understand the purpose for which he went through what he did.

We all go through seasons that we don't fully understand. Some can be long. Some can be short.

The worst thing the enemy can do is make you feel like what you are going through has no purpose. This produces fear.

Over the years I have discovered the best way to deal with fear is by speaking out the Word of God. If today you are going through a situation that is difficult or confusing, let the following words soak into your spirit.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28

...being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6

'For I know the plans I have for you' declares the Lord. 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.' Jeremiah 29:11

In Him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything in accordance with the purpose of His will. Ephesians 1:11.

Our Measure of Christ

The following extract is taken from T Austin Sparks, 'Let The House Be Builded'.

...If it is to be 'Jehovah-shammah'- if it is to be 'The Lord is there', it will be according to the measure of Christ- just how much there is of Christ there. Neither more nor less will God commit Himself. It is not this or that, or many things, that men think constitute a place for God; it is only one thing - how much of Christ is there? Let that go right into our hearts: how much of Christ is there in you and in me?

Does this not explain the infinite pains that God takes, and His preparedness to sacrifice so much, in order to increase our measure of Christ. It is the explanation of so much. Why will He take a very busy and useful servant of His away from His work, and shut him up?-why? We say 'loss', we say 'tragedy', we say the Church suffers; but God knows. It matters more to Him that there should be an increase of Christ there for eternal purposes, than perhaps the doing of a lot of busy things for Him.

A simple verse that reminds me: when God takes hold of a life that is surrendered to His Lordship anything is possible; regardless of background, intelligence, or other people's prejudice.

This is one of the most humbling things I have had the privilege of being a part of; Lives that were once considered 'right offs' or 'useless', now transformed and accomplishing great things for the Kingdom.

Let us never presume someone's lack of potential or ability based on anything, but with joy remind ourselves about the power of the gospel and that we serve a God who is more than able to turn things around.

God loves to take the weak things of this world so as to shame and confuse the wise!

Family

It is at this time of year that many of us look forward to spending time with our family. For Kate and I it is a special time, as both of our brothers lives abroad and we don't get to see them very often. I have been reminded recently about what an incredible privilege it is to be part of God's family. Here are just a few thoughts to encourage you.

We have all been baptised into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:13.

It is the same Holy Spirit that qualifies each of us to be a part of this amazing family. My belonging to the People of God has no bearing on my ability or performance, it is simply because the Spirit of God lives in me. So far as God is concerned we all stand side by side and we all belong.

Therefore, I never have to feel inadequate about myself and I should never look down upon anyone else within the Church. You belong to a people who are undeniably unified, everyone of us being one with Christ and so one with each other.

Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ's body. We are many parts of one body... Romans 12:4.

The Church is a stunning array of personalities, colors, strengths, skills, passions, and languages. I am proud to belong to such a people. The prophetic word that came to our local Church recently encouraged us, 'For I will cause a people to stand together who between them display the full range of my glory.'

We are 'one body', but embrace the fact that you are different to those around you. Be encouraged that there are exploits planned by God that only you can do! Know that God calls you to be yourself in displaying His glory to the world.

As we continue to grow in our understanding of who we are as the People of God, we are encouraged to change the way in which we look at ourselves, and perhaps more importantly, change the way in which we look at those around us.

When Kate and I drive to work every day we pass a huge poster that says, 'It's all about YOU this Christmas.' We smile at this perfect summary of the world in which we live.

Let us be those who choose to honor one another before ourselves, recognizing just what a privilege it is to be part of this wonderful family. In the day-to-day of busy life, it is easy sometimes to take our families for-granted. We can forget how much we actually appreciate and value them. Go out of your way this week to show someone in the Church how much you care for them.

Here in Cardiff, we often hear the expression 'the best people in the world' to describe who we are, let us treat each other accordingly and let the world take a good look!

I have been reminded recently about a simple story in Luke 17. Ten men with leprosy came to Jesus. All were healed but only one returned to say thank you.
Here are just a few thoughts to encourage you...

Those that are thankful are joyful. Those that are joyful are strong.
Thankful people are never standing still, they are always moving forward.
Those that have trained themselves to be thankful don't often get ill.
Thankful people encounter the presence of God.
Thanking God before your meal does not have to be something that is religious.

If you want to see breakthrough in your own life or in your nation, quit complaining and develop an attitude of thanksgiving!

Evangelism or Extinction

The Church was born to reach out and bring the Kingdom of God in. The moment we loose vision for this, 'self-focus' and stagnant 'maintenance' soon emerge, things that God clearly never intended for His People.

Here are just two examples of what has been like fresh air to me recently.

Last Sunday morning we decided to take the Church to the local estate. The gospel was presented and the presence of God was with us. All were relaxed, including many local kids and mums.

We have also been going into our local town town regularly to share Jesus with anyone who will listen. Every time we go out we find more opportunities to talk and pray with people.

Jesus did not commission His Church to comfortably invite the lost to a religious meeting, He commissioned His Church to go into all the world. Let me encourage you... Remove all religious facade; Go and meet people where they are at.

I guarantee it will be like a breath of fresh air to you, because it is what you were created to do!

The Responsibility of a Husband

Quite a while ago I was watching television and during the adverts a quote came up. It said, 'the little things you do everyday could lead to big things for your family.' As one sometimes does in those moments, when God's Word to you is so blatant, I was slightly taken a back! I immediately found my phone and took a photo of the screen!

If there is one thing I am passionate about it is seeing families restored to reflect everything that God intended them to be. Having only been married for two years, I find myself often thinking about my God-given responsibility as a Husband and Head to my home.

Here is a simple encouragement to all Husbands.

But you shall seek the Lord at the place which the Lord your God will choose... to establish His name there for His dwelling and there you shall come... There also you and your households shall eat before the Lord your God and rejoice in all your undertakings in which the Lord your God has blessed you. Deuteronomy 12:5,7

From reading the above this morning, I was reminded of three reasons as to why it is so important that Husbands find that place of seeking the Lord.

As you seek Him, you establish His name in your home that He might dwell with you and your family.
As you feed on His word, you eat not only for yourself but for the protection and covering of your Wife.
As you rejoice in His presence, you set in motion an atmosphere of faith for blessing within your home.

From the little I have seen, a home that is in order always has a Husband whose life in order.

The world says that the only way to reach happiness is to always indulge in satisfying 'myself'. I heard a preacher recently relate this kind of living to junk food; convincingly pleasing in the moment, but the long term result being nothing but disappointment.

A simple word of encouragement for you today: If you want joy, be someone who knows how to serve others.

God first.
Others second.
Me last.

The Philippines

Kate and I have just returned from a mission trip to the Philippines. Here are just two of the many experiences we had, taken from my journal.

Thursday
We went out with the Church to help with their feeding program for the local street children. All of these children are homeless or unable to live at home because of abuse from families. Some are as young as five years old. The Church goes out twice a week to three different locations across the city. They teach the children about Jesus and then hand out food. They are reaching over one hundred children through this ministry. We didn't really know what to expect.

Firstly we helped pack the food bags with the youth. All the youth basically run this ministry. Many of them once street children, now saved and in education or working.

We got into the van and drove for about five minutes. We pulled up outside a Mcdonalds. There were thirty to forty kids all just sitting there on the street.

The youth from the Church were singing songs with them and teaching them. It was just like our children's ministry in the UK. We had the opportunity to do some teaching. This was a very special night for both of us.

Saturday
Today we visited the jail in Ozamiz. This is a small jail with around a hundred and twenty inmates. One of the leaders of the Church called Johnny leads this ministry.

So we pull up in the van to a building that does not look anything like a prison other than the small amount of barbed wire sticking out over a little wall. We get out and there is a small table with three people sitting behind it. Not dressed in any uniform, apparently because it is the weekend! We sign in and then a small door opens. A slightly crazy guy with sunglasses and a big gun welcomes us!

Basically the prison has one long corridor with eight or nine cells off it. Each cell has around sixteen inmates in them. Quite dark, hot and definitely cramped. During the time together those inmates that are well behaved are allowed out of their cells and sit in the corridor on wooden benches. The others come to the bars of their cells and join in from there. So every inmate is involved as the meeting takes place right up and down the main corridor.

Very loud singing, praying and preaching. The atmosphere was amazing. I had the opportunity to preach. Over one hundred of these inmates have given their lives to Jesus, so God is really working there.

Please pray for Noralv and Tone Askeland as they continue in their ministry. This is only a very small glimpse of the work they are doing. They really are seeing nations transformed! See link below for more information.

Kids Without Borders 2011

He held the small jar high so that we could all see. The jar was full to the brim with what looked like precious stones. Mick then went on to explain the dream that God had given him all those years ago.

‘The jar was a picture of our lives; each of us filled with precious pearls. I saw myself handing out each of these stones to a dying and needy world. But it was the way in which I was handing them out that was special. There was only one way by which they could be given to others.’ Mick then lent forward, got down on one knee and whispered, ‘…and that was by serving.’

To see thirty or forty children kneeling in God’s presence in response to this message was powerful for all us. For Kate and I, it was this session that stood out as one of the many special moments within the Children’s Ministry at Bible Week this year.

Prophecy

Here are just a few of the gems taken from last night's teaching on the tool of prophecy. Be encouraged!

When we step out and prophecy, the world will know that God is amongst us.
There are no 'experts in the Spirit'. All have received a full measure!
It is your inheritance to prophecy. Spend it wisely, but spend it!
To think that you cannot use this tool outside of a Sunday morning puts a limitation on the testimony of Jesus.

The power of God's Word can smash open and break any situation.
The first person who gets stirred when you bring a prophecy is you. Get into the habit of prophesying to yourself.

There is no sitting on the fence with the Prophetic Word.
When you have received Prophetic Word, stand on it and make it your confession.
The Word of God is living and active. Therefore, when the Word comes it must always produce life and action.

Don't shrink back, it's time to speak!

Too many Christians are waiting for 'something' to happen, when they are already drenched in anointing. Joel 2 verse 29 is now.

More than ever before, our nation is crying out for a Church that lives in the reality of days where God is already pouring out His Spirit and in doing so has given us everything we need to see the world around us transformed.

Don't let your desire and expectation for the Spirit to one day break out simply be an excuse for a reluctant heart to move, a comfortable lifestyle that demands nothing, and a lack of faith to believe what God actually says about who you are.

No Backup Plan

Since moving to Mozambique, we have learned to depend on God for everything. If God does not show up there, we are dead. In the Western Church we decorate the alter, sing another amazing song, wave another flag, turn on the coloured lights and smoke machines, and sit in a very comfortable chair.

Some of these things can be wonderful expressions of creativity and ingenuity. They can, however, become backup plans. What we need most is to be totally dependent on God showing up. We need his pure presence.

In our poor Mozambican mud-hut churches, we have to have God show up and we have to have fresh food or no one will come. People wouldn't want to come to church for the carpets because, even if we had them, they would be full of dirt and bugs! People come to church to dance, to rejoice, to sing, to meet with God, and to be healed and delivered.

If God doesn't show up, no one else will enter. If God does not heal, we will be dead. If God does not deliver, demons will torment the people to death. We have no fund-raising backup scheme if God does not take care of our children and provide for our needs. We can't and won't go on. Each day we depend on Him for our daily bread to feed the multitudes. We rely on God. In Jesus we have all that we need.

Numbers 33

Here are a few simple thoughts that came from what I read this morning. I hope this will be of encouragement to someone.

Verse 3: They started out boldly in the sight of all the Egyptians.

Whatever situation you are facing always choose to start out boldly, knowing that when the enemy sees you do this, he trembles.

Verse 4: ...while the Egyptians were burying all their first born whom the Lord had struck down.

Know that with every step you take, the enemy has already been defeated.

Verse 53: Take possession of the land and live in it. For I have given the land to you to possess it.

Believe that God has gone ahead of you, and that He has already overcome whatever it is you are facing.

Verse 55: If you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then it shall come about that those whom you let remain of them... will trouble you in the land in which you live.

Understand that walking into the blessing that God has for you requires a responsibility on your part to be pro-active in doing what the Holy Spirit asks of you.

Spiritual Discipline

I have been reminded recently that God desires us to develop disciplined spiritual lives, as a means to pour out more of his grace.

Once we grasp the tremendous truth that righteousness is a gift from God, we can sometimes be tempted to believe that we are absolved of all responsibility for changing.

Spiritual disciplines allow us to place ourselves before God so that he can transform us. Grace is free, but it is not cheap. The grace of God is unearned and inearnable, but if we ever expect to grow in grace, we must pay the price of a consciously chosen course of action.

Don't think that taking further steps into developing a more disciplined spiritual life will ultimately lead you into legalistic living. In my life I have found it simply leaves me in the place of being more amazed, more humbled and more in awe of His wonderful grace.

Two Ears One Mouth

How often do we simply sit and listen to the Holy Spirit. How often are we quick to make sure others hear and appreciate our ideas, before listening to theirs. When people come to us with their problems, how much time do we actually give to listening before we eagerly boast and impress our answers.

So often I find people everywhere are very quick to speak and very slow to listen.

Those that guard their mouths and their tongues keep themselves from calamity. Proverbs 21:23.

To answer before listening, that is folly and shame. Proverbs 18:13

Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak... James 1:19

Those who consider themselves religious unyet do not keep a tight reign on their tongues deceive themselves and their religion is worthless. James 1:26

The bible speaks for itself. To be quick to speak and slow to listen openly displays great spiritual immaturity and flaw in character. Therefore, never take seriously a man who likes the sound of his own voice but shows little interest in listening. If I desire to grow into a man of wisdom I must always look at myself and ask the simple question, 'Am I listening?'.

I wonder if God's People listened more, how much more the Holy Spirit would reveal to us; how much more opportunity to be a blessing might present itself; how much faster might we mature?

Attitude

It is always when I walk into a Church gathering with an attitude of 'what can I give', that I recieve.

It is always when I come into his presence with an attitude of thanksgiving, that an atmosphere of faith is made present.

It is always when I approach the table with an attitude of reverence, that I experience the fullness of it's significance.

It is always when I walk down the street with an attitude of 'being sent', that I am given opportunity to speak to someone.

Our attitude will always determine our experience.

In everything let us be those who have the same attitude as Christ... humble, loving and determined to do the will of his father.

Prayer Not For The Faint Hearted!

Give Thanks

Giving thanks is key to coming into God's presence. It sets an atmosphere for faith and expectation. It is the only attitude by which we can come to God in prayer.

(Psalm 100:4)

Pray for Others

It really is more blessed to give than it is to recieve. Taking your mind off yourself and praying for someone else's need will always build you up and leave you strong.

(Acts 20:35)

Declaration

As God's people we have the privilige of being able to speak in His name and with His authority. There is a big difference between asking God for healing and declaring God's healing. God has given us His word that we might use it!

(Matthew 28:17-19)

Binding and Loosing

In the same way, we have also been given authority to bind things that are not of God and loose things that are in line with his Kingdom; that God's will might be done on earth as it is in heaven. This is the very purpose for which the Church exists.

(Matthew 16:19)

Keep Knocking

I always read this passage with wonder. I wonder what it was like?! One thing we know, wherever God's presence went, they followed. It can't have been easy to move a camp of over two million people, but they did it. They did it because they knew it was God's presence that marked them out.

There is something on my part, a willingness, a responsibility, to chase after the presence of God. There will always be pressures and difficulties in life, but what matters is that in it all we pursue his presence. Because if I don't have his presence then I have nothing.

Always Faithful

They are important because the outward life is what constitutes a believer's witness to the world that Jesus Christ can save, heal, deliver, and make a difference in a persons life.

There's a small fly burning out the last of its short life's energies in a futile attempt to fly through the glass of the windowpane. The whining wings tell the poignant story of the fly's strategy: Try harder.

But it's not working.

The frenzied effort offers no hope for survival. Ironically, the struggle is part of the trap. It is impossible for the fly to try hard enough to succeed at breaking through the glass. Nevertheless, this little insect has staked its life on reaching its goal through raw effort and determination.

The fly is doomed. It will die there on the windowsill.

Across the room, ten steps away, the door is open. Ten seconds of flying time and this small creature could reach the outside world it seeks. With only a fraction of the effort now being wasted, it could be free of this self-imposed trap. The breakthrough possibililty is there. It would be so easy.

Why doesn't the fly try another approach, something dramatically different? How did it get so locked in on the idea that this particular route and determined effort offer the most promise for success? What logic is there in continuing until death to seek a breakthrough with more of the same?

No doubt this approach makes sense to the fly. Regretably, it's an idea that will kill.
Trying harder isn't necessarily the solution to achieving more. It may not offer any real promise for getting what you want out of life. Sometimes, in fact, it's a big part of the problem.

If you stake your hopes for a breakthrough on trying harder than ever, you may kill your chances of success. Price Pritchett.

Too many Christians do not truly believe they were born for greatness. That is why they become settlers.

I do not believe that anyone who is chosen in Christ was saved to simply to be a Sunday morning attender. You were born to do something incredible in this world.

If you believe you were born for greatness it will determine what you see around you and how you react to it. Stepping deeper into all God has for you is all about trusting in someone, his name is Jesus.

Something Fresh

A common question that is brought up time and time again within our churches is this: how do we engage our children in the worship on a Sunday morning?

We recently had a wonderful time at our Bible Week summer conference with the 8-11s. We saw children come into the presence of God, bring powerful prophetic word and heal the sick. There was a real freshness to what we saw. I believe in these days our children will add something fresh to the dynamic of what God is doing amongst us and in our cities.

So where does the responsibility lie on us in seeing this happen? Clearly those leading our meetings play a significant part. However, I believe it is the role of parenting that is key. Here are a few encouragements for those parents who want to see their children come into all God has for them.

Do not be embarrassed to talk with your children about spiritual things. You would be surprised at how many parents actually are. Be real and open with them about the things of God. Let them see that exercising the gifts of the Spirit, hearing God or praying for the sick is part of normal life for a Christian, and not just what the ‘adults’ do on a Sunday morning. Look for consistent opportunity to let them experience these things within everyday life and let them see that life as Christian is the most exciting life you could live.

Secondly, develop an attitude on a Sunday that 'as a family we are going to worship the Lord together'. This is who we are as a family and this is what we do, together. It is not just for mum and dad but it is for me as well. If you allow your child to play games in the corner while worship is taking place they will grow up thinking that church is boring or that it is just for the adults. Some parents will need to develop new habits and disciplines for their children within this area.

And lastly spend time reading the Word with your children. The Word of God is powerful and produces maturity. I believe as you let the Word wash over them, you will be surprised at their rapid spiritual growth and hunger for God.

Do not underestimate your children. They are the ones who will see the things we have longed for in this nation.

The Big Bang Experiment

Christianity and science are not opposed to one another as many believe. To understand that God is the author and creator of all things means that one is never intimidated by the discoveries of science. New scientific revelations of that which is truth will always prove that all things were created by him and for him.

Despite failing at science during school, I have always had a fascination with the universe, it's vastness, complexity and that of the unknown. For me, it speaks of God's awesomeness, and helps me to understand just a little of how big God is. The following is taken from what i read in this morning's headlines.

Three decades after it was conceived, the world's most powerful physics experiment has sent the first beam around its 27km-long tunnel. The £5bn machine on the Swiss-French border is designed to smash particles together with cataclysmic force. This will re-create conditions in the Universe moments after the Big Bang. "We will be able to see deeper into matter than ever before," said Dr Tara Shears, a particle physicist at the University of Liverpool. "We will be looking at what the Universe was made of billionths of a second after the Big Bang. That is amazing, that really is fantastic."

A key aim of the experiment is to find the Higgs boson. According to their theory, particles acquire their mass through interactions with an all-pervading field carried by the Higgs. Amusingly for us, this has been named by scientists as the 'God Particle'.

The latest astronomical observations suggest ordinary matter - such as the galaxies, gas, stars and planets - makes up just 4% of the Universe. The rest is dark matter (23%) and dark energy (73%). Physicists think the LHC could provide clues about the nature of this mysterious "stuff".

I don't know how God did it but what I do know is this: By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. Hebrews 11:3

The creation of all things took place as a result of the Spirit of God and God's spoken word. Because the Spirit of God now lives in me, and because I have a mouth, when I speak I am able to excercise that same power and authority.

This means that instead of asking God to take away sickness, I am able to command it, by my spoken word.

As we read in James 3 and throughout Proverbs, it is so important to understand every day and in every situation that our words are powerful.

More than anything else, God wants you to enjoy life, because he loves you passionately.

The first thing God did after he created man was to bless him (Genesis 1:28). When I watch and listen to some Christians, I often think that the first thing God will say to us when we see him face to face is 'why did you not enjoy what I gave you?'

Nothing brings God greater pleasure than seeing his children blessed. Life is to short to miss this.

Get Real

Recently I have started writing a diary, or what you might call a prayer journal, simply to keep track on what God is doing in my life.

Amongst other things, I have discovered the value that comes from being real with God at the end of each day.

I have been so encouraged with the peace experienced from being honest with him about who he is, who I am, and what is going on in my life.

If you are struggling to give time each day to being in God's presence understand that it is a relationship God desires with you not a legalistic meeting. Yes it is a discipline, but look forward to spending time with your father and be real with him.

These beautiful verses capture the simple heart of what it is I am talking about:

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (Psalm 139:23-24)

A Man Of Character

Give Up Trying

To live a Christian life is not hard work, it is impossible. That is why you need the Holy Spirit.

I meet so many Christians who struggle and strive each day, trying desperately to live in all God has for them. They think that if they just try that little bit harder they will somehow manage to attain a life pleasing to God and be worthy of serving his purposes.

To live a life like this is to reject the truth of what has been achieved through the work of Christ. God did not save you to live a life of trying, he saved you to live a life of victory.

You see, in my own strength I am helpless: it is impossible for me to live a life free from sin, for me to work signs and miracles, to see the restoration of all things, to love as Christ loves, or to live everyday in complete fullness of joy. So stop trying! It will only prove to dissapoint.

Jesus new it would be impossible for me to live this supernatural life and this is why he baptised me with his Spirit, that I might be empowered to do all things, living by the Spirit of God.

To attempt to live even one day in all God has for me without the Holy Spirit is like trying to drive a car without an engine.

Just For Today (Psalm 118:24)

Just for today, I’ll enjoy each moment to the full and try not to tackle my whole life’s problems at once. Just for today, I’ll try to improve my mind by learning more than I know; I’ll read my Bible because it’s my source of wisdom and strength. I’ll be open to those Scriptures that require obedience, action and commitment.

Just for today, I’ll be agreeable, wear a smile and make sure my words are seasoned with grace. Just for today, I’ll have a plan and a goal which I’ll reach towards and chase after. Just for today I’ll develop my character. I’ll do a random act of kindness and keep it secret; if anyone finds out it won’t count.

Just for today, I’ll do something I don’t naturally want to do, which will train my spirit to rule my flesh and my faith to rule my emotions. Just for today, I won’t be afraid to love or to risk; I’ll take steps of faith that stretch me beyond my comfort zone. I’ll enjoy all God’s blessings and believe that every seed I sow in His kingdom will be multiplied back to me many times over.

This is how I’ll live – just for today – and when tomorrow comes, I’ll do it again.

Epic colonial architecture, libidinous young salsa dancers, Che Guevara murals, white-powder sandy beaches, swaying fields of sugar cane - the images of Cuba are as transfixing as they are timeless. This is an island of unique historical heritage floating amid a sea of encroaching globalisation.

This describes the experience I had when travelling around Cuba several years ago. But last week I encountered something very different, something far more beautiful.

I met with a people.

A people overflowing with a love so strong, it could only have come from God Himself.
A people whose hunger for God to move, has changed the way in which I look at my daily circumstance.
A people who live in a Kingdom that breaks beyond the shores of an island.
A people who belong to a family that covers the world, and continues from generation to generation.

Despite being so distant from the familiar, I was home - and it was beautiful.

At His Table

The whole purpose of the cross and the ressurection was so that the Spirit of God could fill our lives. I can now do all things through Christ.

To approach the table in an unworthy manner is to be unaware of the full assurance of what he has done.

Mission 193

My friend Mat and I have just recently returned from our Mission 193 to Tunisia.

Hot sun, beautiful beaches, narrow colourful medina streets, loud Arabic and French talk, beeping taxis and mopeds, locals sitting outside cafes drinking coffee and smoking: the atmosphere was fast moving and friendly.

Despite being washed in western influence, Tunisia is still deeply rooted in Muslim tradition. We were however able to meet with many of the local Christians. We encouraged them and prayed with them for the work they were doing.

One of the things I was reminded of last week was this: when you make yourself available to be used by God, He will always place divine opportunity in your path.

Tax Free Inheritance

God reminded me again this morning of his heart to have a people who fully understand the significance of inheritance.

It is so important that we determine to go beyond those who have gone before us; that we build on what they have built; that we exceed their spiritual maturity and ministry.

It is also important to understand that in building God's Kingdom, one is part of a purpose greater than one's own ministry. We must be active in seeing those younger than ourselves take hold of all that we have seen and run with it.

David's response clearly shows his passion to see Solomon take his throne:

Truly Committed?

This powerful drama gives the history and tells the story of Easy Company, 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, U.S. Army. The series chronicles the experiences of these young men who knew extraordinary bravery and extraordinary fear.

If you want to understand the practical outworking of the covenant that we have entered into with one another as the People of God, then watch it!

The Wise Man

Recently the Church in Cardiff has been recieving teaching on the book of proverbs. I found last weeks session particularly helpful:

The wise man determines the course of his life and he avoids danger.

He is marked by his determination. Here are a few things a man of wisdom should determine: to be someone who is happy, focused, someone who listens, rules his thought life, controls his tongue and his temper, lives by the Holy Spirit and loves God's word.

He is also smart enough to avoid. The best of men have fallen because they do not avoid certain things in life. To avoid is not to be weak but is to be wise. Here are a few things a man of wisdom should avoid: worry, immoral women, bad company, worthless talk, debt, hasty judgment and sin dabbling.

Off To School!

This week a bunch of us from the Church here in Cardiff had the amazing opportunity of giving the gospel to over 900 young people in our local schools! Please pray that there would be lasting fruit from what we did.

Testimony To God's Clear Direction

In June 2006 I decided that I wanted to give a year to studying at Bible College in Cardiff. In the last few months of Bible College I recieved Prophetic Word that God was going to re-locate me.

At that time, Manchester was everything to me. It was home. I was happily rooted. I had many close friends who lived there. I was being used by God in wonderful ways and I was really looking forward to returning there after the course. Clearly I found it very hard to believe that I might not be going back.

After talking it through with my Church elders I realised I must of course be willing to move on from Manchester if it was God's plan. I was extremely challenged on whether my vision was just simply for one city or whether it was for God's Kingdom to fill the whole earth. I was also challenged on whether I was willing to go where ever God wanted me to be.

In the days that followed I spent a lot of time seeking confirmation from God on what had been said. I knew that I had to hear from Him for myself. God took me to 1 Corinthians 16:9 where Paul talks of 'a wide door for effective service' being opened to him. After a week of confusion, fear and a few tears I began to trust in God's goodness.

Throughout the following month God did, what I can only describe as being, a miracle in my heart and in my mind. The Word that was brought was continually confirmed to me by the Holy Spirit in many different ways. Every time I went back to Manchester, from that time on, I saw it as just another city needing Jesus, like any other.

God reminded me that home is not a particular location but is the will of God for your life. I began to get excited, and God spoke clearly to me that wherever I ended up after School of the Word I would significantly add something and have greater opportunity to build His Kingdom.

My testimony has always been that God has clearly laid one part of His plan out after another for me. And I am happy again to have clear direction from God as to what it is He has prepared for me to do.

I believe God has spoken to me clearly about staying here in Cardiff for the next season of my life. I believe I will be able to add something significant to the Church here, and I am also confident that I will be well looked after.

King's Church Manchester

When looking back over the past 6 years it is clear that my time in Manchester has been a big part of God's plan for my life. I have grown so much and have seen God work through me in ways I could not have imagined.

Manchester will always be a home for me, and of course the Church there will always be my close family. I am humbled at having been a part of all that God is doing in that city, and I am proud to have grown up so significantly in my faith within King's Church.

If you are ever in Manchester, visit them - they are the best people in the world!

BORN TO WIN

They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. It is easy to notice those who run in such a way that they might win:

- They run harder than those around them.
- They consistently welcome discipline in their lives and they love to learn.
- They are not swayed by oncoming difficulty, temporary present failure or a pathetic history, but are focussed and determined.
- They refuse to settle for anything less than first place.

God has not simply given you the potential to become all that He wants you to be, He has predestined your success.

Understand today that God Himself is passionatly 'for you' and let it change the way in which you think.

A Perfect Miracle

Yesterday was amazing. My girlfriend became the aunt of a perfect baby boy. I had never seen a new born baby before and so to watch him sleeping, only a few hours after he was born, was incredible.

To hear of all that mum and dad had been through; to know that he was taking his first ever breaths; and to feel him gripping my finger with his tiny hand: the whole thing was simply a miracle.

I left the hospital amazed at how awesome my God is.

Being Refined

For he will be like a refiner's fire... He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver.
Malachi 3:2-3

When silver is made pure the refiner holds it under an extreme heat and watches it closely. The impurities are brought to the surface of the metal and are then scraped off. The refiner knows his work is finished when he is able to clearly see his reflection in the metal.

God loves and accepts you just as you are, but he loves you so much and is so excited about his purposes that he refuses to leave you the same. Consider difficult times a pure joy knowing that God is preparing you for greatness!

Inheritance

Go in and take possession of the land that the Lord swore he would give to your fathers. Deuteronomy 1:8

Here we see Moses exhorting God's people as they are camped at the western threshold of the Promised Land. Forty years previous to this time they missed the opportunity to enter the land due to cowardice and unbelief.

Once saved we stand on the threshold of all the blessings that come from living within the Kingdom of God. Complete provision, total health, fullness of peace and joy are all just one step away. The question is: do we have the faith to enter into the goodness that God promises us or do we miss out because of cowardice and unbelief?

I have been learning recently that God does not want an immature people who He spoon feeds but a mature people who boldly take hold of the good things that are set on the table before them. God's heart is to have a people who know what their inheritence is and claim it for themselves with confidence.

If you want to live the life of blessing God has for you: fill yourself with His word so that you might know who you are, know what is yours, and then when situations of need arise: boldly take hold of it.

People Of God Smile!

God is a good God! If you have put your faith in Jesus Christ and made Him Lord of your life then you are a constant testimony to the goodness of God.

Think about what He has saved you from: Ephesians 2:1-3

1 Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. 2 You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. 3 All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.

Think about what He has saved you into: Ephesians 2:4-7

4 But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) 6 For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. 7 So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus.

To experience God's amazing grace as an ongoing reality in my life means that I am able to smile in the face every circumstance. Daily recognising God's goodness in your life is the first step to sharing it.

Wow: What A View!

Ephesians 1:18-23

I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, 20which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

Jesus is Lord. He is above all. He is Lord over every mindset, philosophy, religion, government, army, sickness, addiction, debt, starving child, relationship and circumstance. Those that know this are people who live in the fear of the Lord. They are rid of all intimidation, anxiety or worry because they know that God is in control.

It is incredible to know that Jesus reigns over all things; It is even more incredible to know the fullness of God's beautiful plan, that involves calling you by name to rule and reign along side Him. God's eternal purpose has always been to have a people who would rule in the earth on His behalf.

I carry the same power, authority and anointing with which Jesus Christ walked the earth. To know this, transforms my perspective on situations I come across in my own life and in the world.

I believe very strongly that God is raising up a people who truly know the magnitude of the power by which they walk, talk, give, take, bind and loose. There is no limit to what God could do through such a people.

A Normal Day In The Kingdom

15 Ever since I first heard of your strong faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for God’s people everywhere, 16 I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, 17 asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. 18 I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.

Here we read of Paul's passion to see the Church gain a greater revelation of all that Christ has brought them into. A normal day in the Kingdom is always an adventure because it is always God's desire, no matter what the weather or the circumstance, to reveal more of Himself and His plan to those He has called.

God's heart for you today is that you might gain spiritual wisdom and insight that you might grow in your knowledge of Him. He wants you to understand in a greater fullness the confident hope that He has given you. He wants you to know the rich and glorious inheritance He has available to you.

Know today that God is for you. He is waiting to show you more of Himself and the plan He has for your life. All you have to do is listen.

Know Who You Are

To know that I am blessed will mean that I walk in blessing.

To know that I have been made holy will mean that I live a holy life.

To know that I have been adopted as God's son will mean that I sleep like royalty.

To know that I have been forgiven will mean that I have a smile on my face.

To know that I have an inheritance will mean that I run fast to take hold of it.

To know that the Holy Spirit lives in me will mean that I make good decisions.

To know that I have been predestined and chosen before the creation of the world to live for God's eternal purposes will mean that I look at every situation I go through and see divine purpose.

The list could go on!

If we, the community of God's people, remind ourselves each day of the fullness of truth in our identity, that has been accomplished through the work of Christ, we will leave childish ways behind, step into our rightful inheritance and go on to see our cities transformed!

God Heals

Yesterday a few of us went into town to tell people about Jesus. Paul preached saying that if anyone wanted change in their life we had the answer. I clocked a guy leaning against a wall listening. He saw me looking at him and then walked straight over. I asked him what it was he was thinking. He said quite simply that he wanted change in his life.

I could tell just by looking at him that he was very ill. He struggled to speak and kept apologising for the way he looked. He explained that a year ago he had been diagnosed with parkinsons disease. As John and I spoke with him it was also clear that he was very lonely. We prayed that he would be healed and then gave him the gospel.

We met up with him again this afternoon. He told us that last night his speech had got considerably better and that he couldn't believe it. As we talked with him about the truth of Jesus again I felt God's real presence with us and knew that the Holy Spirit was working in his life.

He will be coming to our Church meeting on Sunday so please join with me in believing that this man will be saved very soon.

On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. John 7:37

When we were praying as a class this morning, there was a time of complete silence as we enjoyed on the presence of God. My immediate thought was - 'have I turned my mobile off?!' As I reached into my back pocket to switch it off, the Holy Spirit spoke to me and simply said 'You don't turn your phone off enough.' I was reminded again of how important it is that I prioritise time, away from all distractions, to meet with my King. The secret place is where I recieve all I need to do the things God has planned for me to do.

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Matthew 6:6

Are You Really Sure Jez?

I have a plan for the whole earth, for my mighty power reaches throughout the world. The Lord Almighty has spoken – who can change His plans? When His hand moves, who can stop Him? Isaiah 14:26-27

The fulfilment of God's plans and purposes in this earth are a certainty. This world is subject to the plans of God. It is so important that we, who are called to the purposes of God, remind ourselves everyday of the confidence we can have in what we are living for.

I am certain that the whole earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of God. I am certain that Jesus will return for a beautifully prepared Church. I am certain that every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. I am certain that today God's Kingdom is forcefully advancing.

If you remind yourself everyday that God's purposes will certainly take place, that His promises on your life will certainly come to pass – it will change the way you think and change the way you live your life.

Today is my birthday! I have been thinking a lot recently about how good God is!

This year I have been blessed by God in so many different ways...

...employment whenever I have needed it, a perfect social work placement, passing my degree, the massive privilege of going on School of the Word. I have been given gifts of money, a car, a laptop, a very nice watch, a perfect flat in which to live. I have had amazing parents and good covenant friends who have always been there for me, as well as letters and text messages of encouragement. I have had brilliant leaders who have helped me to grow in God. I have been given big opportunities to see people's lives transformed. I have always had enough money. I have been kept safe. I have never been seriously ill. I have always had a bed to sleep in. God has always been faithful and He has never given up on me.

To live in the purposes of God is to live in the abundant prosperity and blessing of God. Let the world take a good look my life: It is a testimony to the goodness of God! :)

Just Imagine!

Apologies for such a long pause in my blogging!

In thinking about what I might do after this year on School of the Word, I have found myself continually coming back to this verse,

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine... Ephesians 3:20

If I were to make myself completely available to God, what dare I imagine?

One thing I know for sure, God has a lot more for us as the People of God. Let us be those that dream BIG!

Serving God's Purposes

Over the past few months I have not been able to get this verse out of my head,

'When David had served God's purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep...' Acts 13:36.

David loved God with a passion. He was a man after God's own heart. He was a normal guy who simply desired to please God and serve Him. And when he got to the end of his life he was able to look back and say with confidence that he had served God's purposes in his own generation.

God always has a purpose for each generation.

There is nothing in this earth that can compare to serving the 'now' purposes of God.

Those used powerfully by God carry hearts that burn with a passion simply to be used by Him. They know that they are chosen by God and confidently live holy lives worthy of the calling that they have recieved. They always go beyond those that have served God's purposes in generations past.

I believe that this generation will encounter the biggest move of God this nation has ever seen. God's people living today can decide to either be a part of it or sit back and watch. If deciding to be a part of it - it will demand nothing less than one's everything.

We had Ezekiel Shibemba from Manchester come and teach us today. One of the many things that I have noticed from watching Ezekiel's life is his brilliant example of how family should be. I love the way in which his deep understanding of the Word finds perfect expression in his down to earth Kingdom living. I hope one day to have a family just like his.

I am so grateful for those like Ezekiel who consistently inspire me and show me how to live just as God wants.

Expectant?

On New Year's Eve I was given the great opportunity of telling a close member of my family about Jesus. Despite my prayers, I was not expecting this opportunity to arise as this particular person seemed so far away from God and totally uninterested.

When I was talking with him I was made aware again of his desperate need for Jesus and of how the Holy Spirit was clearly working within his life, just as I had prayed for.

He did not give his life to Jesus that night but I left the conversation confident in this verse, 'Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you AND your household.' (Acts 16:31).

Let me encourage you by reminding you that it is God's will for all your family to be saved. Know that no matter how far off from God they may seem they are never out of reach from His unmeasurable grace. God is mighty to save (Zeph 3:17). Always be confident and expectant that the things you pray for in the name of Jesus will result in a move of His Holy Spirit (John 14:14).

I was really encouraged by what I read in this week's update for King's Church...

Following on from the success of our first 'VIP Men's Night' in March, we held another event recently (9th November) for guys in Manchester who are either homeless, or from hostels or temporary accommodation.

It was a great night with over 80 visitors. We provided food, clothes, toiletries and a warm welcome. Throughout the night members of King's Church were an amazing witness to King Jesus in how they served, showed love and life-giving grace to these guys.
